Coordinated Improvements Across Three State Office Buildings
MIRC Construction Services completed door, entrance and related life-safety improvements across State Office Buildings 5, 6 and 7 at the West Virginia State Capitol Complex in Charleston.
The project included replacement of selected interior and exterior doors and frames, along with associated demolition, reconstruction, hardware, glazing and other work required to integrate the new openings into the existing buildings.
Because the work extended across three active State office buildings, the project required careful coordination of individual openings, building systems and ongoing facility operations.

OCCUPIED FACILITY RENOVATION
Construction Within Active Government Facilities
State Office Buildings 5, 6 and 7 remained occupied during construction, requiring MIRC to coordinate the work around ongoing State operations while maintaining safe access for employees and visitors.
Selective demolition and replacement activities were planned to minimize noise, dust and disruption within the active facilities. Temporary barricades, protection of adjacent finishes and furnishings, and controlled access around work areas were incorporated into the construction process.
Working within occupied government buildings required careful sequencing and coordination so improvements could move forward without unnecessarily interrupting day-to-day operations.
LIFE-SAFETY & SECURITY
Integrated Door, Access-Control & Fire Alarm Work
The door and entrance improvements required more than replacement of the physical openings. New hardware and electronic components had to be coordinated with the Capitol Complex’s existing access-control and life-safety systems.
At applicable replacement doors, the project included modifications and additions to the existing access-control system to maintain the security requirements of the State and Capitol Police Department. Related electrical and fire alarm work was coordinated with the architectural scope so the upgraded openings functioned as complete building systems rather than isolated components.

The Buildings 5, 6 and 7 project adds to MIRC’s extensive government and public-sector construction experience in West Virginia, including renovation and facility improvement work within active public buildings throughout Charleston and across the state.
