Specialized Improvements Across an Active College Campus
MIRC Construction Services completed three publicly bid projects at West Virginia University at Parkersburg. Together, the projects encompassed specialized laboratory construction, building-envelope and mechanical improvements, environmental remediation and interior renovations.
The work required coordination among university representatives, designers, specialty contractors and building-system trades. Construction was planned around existing facilities and ongoing campus operations, with careful attention to access, temporary protection, environmental controls and project sequencing.

PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS
Science Laboratory Fit-Up & Casework
MIRC completed two coordinated contract packages within WVU Parkersburg’s New Science Wing, creating an 11,796-square-foot teaching-laboratory environment for chemistry, biology, microbiology, anatomy, genetics, geology, astronomy and physics.
The laboratory fit-up included interior framing and finishes, laboratory water, gas, vacuum and chemical-waste systems, HVAC equipment and ductwork, critical airflow controls, electrical power, lighting, fire alarm and communications systems.
The casework package provided wood laboratory casework, student workstations, epoxy-resin countertops and sinks, laboratory service fixtures, utility connections and fume-hood duct and control connections.
BUILDING SYSTEMS & ENVIRONMENTAL REMEDIATION
Mold Remediation & HVAC Upgrades
MIRC completed a coordinated remediation and building-system improvement project within the existing EDA wing of WVU Parkersburg’s Main Building. Pickering Associates served as the project architect.
The work addressed both affected interior areas and the underlying sources of moisture infiltration. Improvements included roof replacement, below-grade waterproofing, exterior masonry repairs, drainage modifications, a new aluminum storefront entrance and replacement HVAC systems.
Environmental work was completed within controlled containment areas using HEPA-filtered negative pressure. Selective demolition, cleaning, material replacement and interior restoration were coordinated with independent environmental assessment and clearance testing.

MIRC renovated the existing men’s and women’s restrooms within WVU Parkersburg’s Main Building. Designed by Pickering Associates, the 520-square-foot project modernized the spaces while improving accessibility, durability and the overall interior environment.
The renovation included new finishes, plumbing fixtures, toilet compartments, solid-surface vanity tops, lighting and restroom accessories. Mechanical, electrical and plumbing modifications were coordinated with the new architectural layout.
